It’s the season for all things pumpkin! We absolutely love cinnamon rolls and a quick and delicious way we like to make them is with Crescent roll dough. To make the pumpkin icing, we added canned pumpkin and the end result was a new breakfast favorite – pumpkin cinnamon rolls!
Here’s what you’ll need
- Crescent roll dough
- butter (softened)
- brown sugar
- cinnamon
- cream cheese (softened)
- vanilla extract
- milk
- canned pumpkin
- powdered sugar
Let’s make these easy and delicious pumpkin cinnamon rolls!
- Preheat oven and roll out Crescent roll dough
Preheat oven to 375°F, then spray your work surface with non-stick spray. Roll out one Crescent roll dough sheet and pinch the seams to prevent your mixture from leaking through.
- Prepare cinnamon mixture
Melt the butter. We prefer melting it in a microwave for 30-60 seconds on low power. Mix the melted butter, cinnamon, and brown sugar in a small bowl with a spoon or fork.
- Spread mixture onto dough sheet
Pour the cinnamon mixture from the bowl onto the dough sheet and spread it evenly using a spatula or knife.
- Add second dough sheet on top of first sheet
Open the second can of Crescent roll dough and place it on top of the first sheet.
- Roll the sheets and cut into six pieces
Roll the sheets from the short side to other short side until you have a log. Cut the log into six even pieces.
- Bake the cinnamon rolls
After spraying a baking dish with nonstick spray, place the cinnamon rolls in the dish, then bake them for 17-20 minutes or until they’re golden brown.
- Make pumpkin icing
While the cinnamon rolls are baking, prepare the icing. First, mix cream cheese and butter with a hand mixer until it’s smooth. Then, add vanilla extract, milk, and canned pumpkin and evenly mix again. Lastly, add powdered sugar and mix for the final time.
- Top cinnamon rolls with icing and serve
After your cinnamon rolls are done baking, remove them from the oven, let them cool for about five minutes, and top with icing. Serve fresh and enjoy!
Things I learned
Most definitely! Pillsbury now offers whole Crescent dough sheets so you don’t have to worry about the seams that come with the Crescent roll dough.
We let our cinnamon rolls cool for about 5 minutes before we put the icing on it because we like to eat our cinnamon rolls still hot and fresh.
