We got an air fryer recently so of course we had to try our hand at making a recipe with it! Since we were in the mood for shrimp so we decided to make an easy version of air fryer bang bang shrimp. It was great being able to get that crunch without having to fry the shrimp. The shrimp was tossed in our easy to make sauce and we also saved some sauce for dipping. Let’s get to cooking!
What you’ll need
- raw shrimp, peeled and deveined
- panko bread crumbs
- flour
- egg
- garlic powder
- salt
- pepper
- olive oil spray
- sweet chili sauce
- Kewpie mayonnaise
Let’s cook some air fryer bang bang shrimp
- Set up the dredging station and prepare the air fryer
In one bowl, crack two eggs and scramble. In a separate bowl, put the flour in it and add the garlic powder, salt, and pepper and make sure it’s mixed well. In a third bowl, put your panko bread crumbs. Take out the rack from your air fryer and spray generously with olive oil. Preheat your air fryer by setting it to 400°F and letting it run for a few minutes.
- Batter the shrimp
Take a piece of shrimp and dredge it through the flour. Once it’s coated, shake off any excess flour and dip it in the egg. From there, drop it into the panko bread crumbs and press the bread crumbs onto the shrimp. Place the shrimp onto the rack. Repeat with all the shrimp. Depending on the size of your air fryer, you may have to cook the shrimp in two batches.
- Air fry the shrimp and make the sauce
Before putting the rack of shrimp into the air fryer, generously spray the top of the shrimp with more olive oil. Air fry for 5 minutes at 400°F. While the shrimp is cooking, mix the sweet chili sauce and Kewpie mayonnaise. Take the shrimp out and flip them, spray the top with olive oil, and air fry for 3 more minutes.
- Top the shrimp with the sauce
Put your shrimp in a bowl and gently toss with the sauce. You can also just pour the sauce on top of the shrimp. We like to keep some sauce on the side to dip the shrimp in. Enjoy!
