Grilled cheese sandwiches are a staple comfort food in our house, and donuts are one of our favorite breakfast foods. We decided to combine the two and the result was absolutely delectable! You can whip up this fun grilled cheese donut in less than 10 minutes.
Here’s what you’ll need
- Glazed donuts
- Sliced cheese
- Butter
Let’s make some grilled cheese donuts!
- Slice and butter donuts
Use a bread knife or a knife with a serrated edge to slice your donuts. Generously butter the flat unglazed sides.
- Top with cheese and cook
Heat a frying pan over low to medium heat. Sandwich 2 slices of cheese between the glazed sides of donut and cook each buttered side until golden brown, about 1 minute on each side.
Things I Learned
The sugar will melt and burn if you grill the glazed sides on the pan, so we recommend grilling the unglazed sides to retain the sugary goodness of the donut glaze!
We used Colby-Jack cheese slices for our grilled cheese donuts, but feel free to use any kind of cheese you like! A mild cheese would probably go best with a sweet donut.
We hope you enjoyed this grilled cheese recipe! It can be enjoyed for breakfast, brunch, lunch or even as a quick snack. It’s fun when two of our favorite foods come together with such delicious results.
